In 2001,
Shams invited Atelier de
Recherche ALBA to participate in
its yearly festival taking place
at the Theatre de Beyrouth, a
theater that opened its doors in
1965 the Ain el-Mraysseh area.
The intervention of Atelier de
Recherche ALBA was 1 Acte / 2
Pièces, an installation in the
theater’s vitrine. The 'Theatre
de Beyrouth' represented by one
of its own seats, is framed in
its own window. The window is a
cut: though it belongs to the
street visually, it is
physically a part of the
theatre.
Act one: the seat, looking
towards the sea, turning its
profile to the passers-by finds
itself trapped under a
mechanical sow parallel to the
window. The engine starts. the
sow moves back & forth, it
descends very slowly during 25
days, making its way across the
seat. On the last day of the
Shams Festival, on the 27th of
march, celebrating the
International day of the
Theatre, the seat is totally cut
in two [pieces].
En 2001, le collectif
Shams invita l’Atelier de
Recherche ALBA a participer à
son festival annuel ayant lieu
au Théâtre de Beyrouth, une
salle qui ouvrit ses portes en
1965 dans le secteur de Aïn
el-Mreysseh.
L’intervention de l’Atelier de
Recherche ALBA fut 1 Acte / 2
Pièces, une installation où le
Théâtre de Beyrouth, représenté
par un de ses sièges, est mis en
scène dans sa propre vitrine.
Coupure, la vitrine appartient
visuellement à la rue et
physiquement au théâtre.
ACTE UNIQUE - Le moteur se met
en marche. La scie va et vient
et descend (mouvement très
lent). A la fin, — vingtième
jour — le fauteuil est
totalement coupé en deux.
